603-103-MQ, Crime and Prejudice
This course will use crime fiction as a guide through which to examine changing perceptions in society. We will study the changing conventions of this ever-popular genre and how its evolution often mirrors and/or predicts shifts in the very psyche of the times that produced them. Tracing the development of the genre through to the present will also give us a chance to look at changing attitudes towards the central themes of the course, crime and justice, gender, ethnicity and class.
