This course explores contemporary filmmaking from the post-war period onward. It was during the 1960s that international cinema broke with past traditions, reflecting emerging cultural revolutions worldwide, French New Wave and Auteur Theory define this pivotal moment. European, International, and independent cinema will be viewed in relation to North American cinema, and how developments reveal cultural and social changes. Students will explore the language, codes and conventions of these revolutions in cinema.
