This course will explore a range of international films from a variety of countries in relation to their specific cultural, social, economic and political situations and contexts. Students will examine the influence of key cultural players (i.e. consumers, producers, governments) in an industry that is driven by both private and public institutions. Narrative, documentary and experimental films from various world regions may be screened. Students will also learn to use the language specific to film studies and to recognize its codes and conventions.
