530-102-VA, Video Production I
This course is a hands-on introduction to video production. Students will begin to develop the technical skills and creative process involved in producing a short format video, engaging in all stages of producing a video: preproduction (including idea development, scriptwriting, script-breakdown), production (including camera work, lighting, sound recording) and post-production (image and sound editing). Students will complete a series of in-class exercises, and view screenings of varied film examples. These assignments will provide students with a basic understanding of how to generate and interpret creative ideas and familiarize them with the language appropriate to video production. They will also learn how to use this language as they develop the skills required for critical self-reflection. Students will have access to video production equipment and post-production facilities throughout the course.
