510-106-VA, Introduction to Studio Art
This course is a hands-on introduction to studio art in which technique and the importance of process in art will be explored. Students will be introduced to art-making techniques (such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking or collage) in order to touch upon and understand the dynamics and possibilities of various mediums. Students will experiment and develop their skills through various observational projects. A variety of assigned subjects will be the starting point of each artwork/project, allowing the students to focus on developing their technical abilities. The student will also be exposed to the language and terminology specific to the visual arts and use these as they develop the skills required for critical self-reflection.
