This course teaches students a basic understanding of the general theory of operating systems, not specific to a particular machine. The main functions of operating systems such as memory management, process scheduling, device management, file management, resource allocation, system management, security and protection will be discussed in class. There will be laboratories where the students will learn how to troubleshoot a microcomputer operating system and they will also be introduced to DOS. A comparison of different operating systems will be covered at the end of the course.
