387-208-VA, Sociology of Youth Culture
This course introduces students to the sociology of youth culture. The principle sociological perspectives will be applied to analyze the norms, beliefs and material conditions that influence the formation of youth cultures. Students will also examine the roles of gender, social class, race, ethnicity, and sexuality and how these various factors influence young people to choose to participate in particular youth subcultures. Special attention will be given to the relevance of youth cultures and how it impacts the lives of many young people in our society.
