Through class discussions and debates, lectures, videos and student research, this course will examine how individuals are shaped by society and will help students to understand the relationship between events in their own lives and larger social forces. The principles, methods and theories of sociology will be used to examine the norms, values, beliefs and material conditions of our lives. Major topics will include culture, socialization, inequality, race and ethnic relations. This course is a pre-requisite to other sociology courses.
