|381-204-VA, Culture and Sexuality |
This course is interested in studying sexuality as the result of cultural constructions and constraints. By examining sexual practices and beliefs in a cross-cultural perspective, our aim is to understand how a phenomenon such as sexuality is given meanings in different cultures and how these sexual practices, taboos, concepts, etc. are the result and reflection of larger social, cultural, economic, religious, cosmological beliefs. In a word, we will study sexuality as a social phenomenon.
