This course will explore the social, academic and interpersonal issues related to children and youth at risk. The concepts of risk and protective factors, trauma and resilience will be examined to provide a conceptual framework to the problems experienced by at risk children and youth. Students will be introduced to effective interventions to facilitate the development of social skills and coping techniques that will enhance the adaptive potential of young people with behavioral problems in schools and aggressive behavior in communities.
