345-102-MQ, Worldviews and City Life
This course is designed to explore the different conceptions, models, and myths of the “modern metropolis” found predominantly in modern Western traditions. Our perceptions of, and responses to, the city are saturated with complex ideas, symbols, metaphors, and images drawn from different worldviews and understandings of the urban environment. These, in turn, shape  our relationship to the metropolitan landscape we live in today. Through the examination of poetry, essay, and novels, this course will allow us to explore the complex relationships between human society and the modern city in particular, and between social and spatial environments in general.
