345-102-MQ, Worldviews and the Cosmos
In this course we will examine the ways in which our worldview has been revised by the astonishing insights of modern cosmology: the scientific study of the universe in its totality. Beginning about 500 years ago, many of our traditional notions of the universe and ultimate reality have been greatly challenged by the development of modern physics. This course is devoted to the exploration of pre-Newtonian, Newtonian, and post-Newtonian worldviews and the impact these worldviews have had on our relationship with ourselves and the world.
