345-102-MQ, The Technological World
The aim of this course is to identify and understand the rationalist and scientific world view which emerged early in the modern era and which, to a great extent, prevails today. Through classic texts, we will trace the development of this world view, from a radical, upstart philosophic methodology, into a confident, near-total ideology and technology. As we start to recognise our technological world, we’ll take a step back and think about what it asks and expects of us—in other words, its ethical and political implications.
