345-101-MQ, Understanding Inequality
The primary purpose of this course is to grasp what it means to know that something is true. The secondary purpose is to understand how the process of knowing unfolds in various attempts to discern the causes of inequality. In order to accomplish the first goal, we perform multiple exercises to gain an empirical and verifiable understanding of what we are doing when we are knowing. We then examine how this process of knowing is operative in various attempts to understand important instances of inequality, both domestically and internationally. We examine instances of inequality in institutions such as education and the economy, and we read a variety of texts in an attempt to discern the process of knowing as it is operative in the interpreters of inequality.
