345-101-MQ, Knowledge Opinion and Belief
This course encourages students to consider the assumptions we make about truth and knowledge, the way in which we form opinions, and the beliefs we hold concerning a range of subjects. In the contemporary age, we are bombarded with the opinions of others, including expert opinion, and an overwhelming supply of information, arguments and statistics which seem to encourage us to accept assumptions on a great variety of topics. This course will explore a number od questions relating to how we assess all this information, and how we determine whether what we are hearing, seeing or reading makes any sense, has any value, or contributes to our "knowledge".
