The objective of this course is to introduce the student to the fundamental concepts of signal processing and signal conditioning circuits. This course will extend the students’ knowledge of circuit analysis to include specific signals as provided by different types of transducers, used in instrumentation, automation, and robotics. Content: Analog and digital signal characterization using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis in the time and frequency domains; Signal extraction; Active filters; Signal conversion, Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCO’s); Phase Locked Loops (PLL’s); Multiplication, Square root extraction, and Signal transmission; Linear circuit analysis and Bode diagrams; Analog to digital (A/D) and digital to analog (D/A) conversion. The student will complete the development of a project of a functioning instrument measurement chain (pressure, strain, flow, etc.).
