221-360-VA, Statics and Wood Construction
This course focuses on basic structural theory and its application in design of buildings. Students will gain an understanding of why buildings stand up and how the building loads are transferred in a structure. This theory will be applied to a study of behaviour of wood structures and finding the strength and capacity of typical wood structural elements by applying basic structural calculation methods. Part of the Quebec Construction code dealing with structures will be introduced. Interpretation of structural data and of simple structural drawings will be done using examples from the engineering practice.
