201-391-VA, Elements of Calculus The principal goal of the course is to arrive at an intuitive understanding of certain key concepts which, combined with an adequate level of manipulative ability, will permit the students to employ the main tools of the course in situations arising in their field of specialization. The main topics include an intuitive introduction to limits, the development of the derivative, an introduction to the definite integral, and the application of the derivative to rates of change, optimization and analysis of graphs. |
