180-311-VA, Nursing and Health Challenges in Adult
This course focuses on the adult and elderly person experiencing developmental and situational life events such as acute health problems and accidents. Nursing problems, assessment skills and pharmacotherapies related to health challenges requiring medical and/or surgical care will be addressed. A process for ethical decision making including principles and values as it relates to nursing care in acute care will be explored. In the acute care medical/surgical hospital setting, the student will plan care and perform interventions to assist the person to achieve a maximum level of health. The first aid emergency measures outside the hospital setting is taught. Health promotion as a fundamental aspect of health care continues to be actively promoted in the clinical setting. Lastly, the student will examine some of the skills required to meet the emotional and organizational demands of the nurse.
