180-111-VA, Introduction to Nursing and Health Challenges
This course will focus on health and physical assessment, using the Roy Adaptation Model as the conceptual framework for nursing. Communication and assessment skills will be emphasized. The course will introduce the concept of health teaching and health promotion in the context of adult and elderly clients experiencing loss of autonomy requiring temporary or lifelong institutional care. The course will explore the role of the nurse from a legal, social and philosophical perspective. The basic principles of pharmacotherapy are introduced along with health problems relevant to the clinical client. The emergency measure cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for the health care professional is taught and certification is attained. You will also learn about some basic first aid procedures.
