387-207-VA, Crime and Punishment
Criminology is one of the "hottest" and fastest-growing topics in sociology. Newpapers and TV news cover crime-related stories on a daily basis. In this course, you will analyse the various theories, causes, and social impact of criminal behaviour. You will also learn about key elements in Canadian law and critically examine social inequality in the Canadian Justice system, the characteristics of offenders and victims, and the victim-offender relationship. Principles of punishment, social control mechanisms, and crime prevention measures will complete the course.
