This course analyzes the interrelationship of gender, class and race and demonstrates how these structures shape the experiences of people in North America. By analyzing gender, class and race, students will better understand how the structures in our society influences the individualís consciousness, group interaction and group access to power and privilege. Students will also examine the impact of gender, class and race on the individual experience, whether it is the experience of the oppressor or oppressed, powerful or powerless. Students will discover how the oppressed resist change and as such, critically assess how oppression generates resistance.
