This course will examine the origin and development of the most important themes in ancient - particularly Greek - philosophy. Philosophers such as Socrates, Plato and Aristotle laid the foundations of Western philosophy. The issues they raise, the answers they give, challenge us to think about the most important philosophical questions. Topics studied will include: the distinction between appearance and reality; the nature of knowledge; the place of the individual in society; the good life for human beings
