330-204-VA, Topics in the History of Civilizations
In this course, we do magic. Here, you can travel the world, see new sights, experience exotic cultures...without ever leaving Montreal! Study ritual sacrifice among the Aztecs, visit the almost-mythical city of Timbuktu, watch the wall of China being built, and find out what was behind it all. This course breaks out of the Western world we live in and shows students how varied and interesting the rest of the world is and has been from the earliest times to the twentieth century. A focus area is chosen whenever this course is given, including the civilizations of Latin America, Africa, Islam, East Asia, Russia, and others. What exactly is a civilization and where do different ones come from? Are you adventurous enough to climb aboard and find out?
