201-206-VA,
This is the first of two courses designed to provide the student with an applied background in mathematics. The course through the use of lectures, tutorials and laboratory modules will emphasize mathematics as a practical tool and language for solving applied problems at an appropriate engineering technology level. In this course basic topics will be reviewed, and linked to applications in engineering technology at the technologist level. The student will also be introduced to software used to solve practical problems. CONTENT: Algebra, linear equations and curve fitting, trigonometry, exponential and logarithmic functions, vectors, complex numbers. Problem solving skills: from description to solution. Applications using Matlab.
