Open Door Network
Online Questionnaire for Vanier Employees

NO NAMES PLEASE

The Open Door Network is a College wide initiative aimed at creating a more welcoming and safe environment for sexual minority students. Sexual minority, sometimes called 'the alphabet', namely G/L/B/T/T/T/I/Q/Q refers to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, two-spirited, transgender, intersex, queer and questioning.

Beginning this semester and over the next few years we will be offering a series of workshops to all Vanier employees to sensitize ourselves to the different realities of sexual minority students. Participation in the workshop is voluntary.

The purpose of this questionnaire is to collect information on our work experiences of and questions about sexual minority issues. These will be integrated in the Open Door Network materials/workshops so as to better reflect the specific concerns and questions of our community.

Once you fill in the questionnaire below, you can submit your answers by clicking on the "Submit" button after the last question. The information will be forwarded anonymously to Evangeline Caldwell who will compile the answers and then destroy the returned questionnaires/emails. The compilation will be used to help develop the workshops and materials for the Open Door Network.

A Few Terms

Sexual orientation
Direction of attraction for intimate emotional and sexual relationships with people of the same gender (homosexual, gay, lesbian), other gender (heterosexual), or two genders (bisexual). Sexual behavior does not always reflect sexual orientation.

Gender identity
This is the psychological state of viewing oneself as a girl or boy and later as a man or woman. Transsexuals have a gender identity that is different from their biological sex.

Transgendered
An umbrella term that includes transsexuals, cross-dressers, drag queens and drag kings, gender outlaws and all those whose gender roles are ambiguous. This identification challenges traditional notions of sexuality and gender. Transgendered people may be heterosexual, bisexual or homosexual.
