JORDAN WAXMAN: INVESTMENT BANKER IS ALSO A COMPETITIVE TRIATHLETE AND LONG-DISTANCE SWIMMER

Vanier Commerce grad Jordan Waxman is a successful private banker working for Merrill Lynch in NYC. He also heads a busy household in New Jersey with his wife, Caren, and three children. Jordan is an accomplished athlete who has run many triathlons and ironman triathlons, but has a particular gift for long-distance swimming. Not only has he completed the arduous Manhattan Island Marathon Swim (28.5 miles around the island) on several occasions, but he was also featured in a Gazette article that chronicled his first attempt in August 2009 to swim the English Channel. (He swam for over 14 hours but was unable to reach shore because of the currents.) Jordan finally completed a successful crossing of the channel on September 29, 2010 with a time of 14 hours, 7 minutes.

This crossing was chronicled in a special Gazette article by David Yates from October 19, 2010. Read it.

Waxman's swimming prowess was developed over a lifetime love affair with the water that began with his learning to swim at age 3.

His first competitive swim team was none other than here at Vanier, and he went on to compete with the McGill Swim Team where he eventually served as team captain from 1984 to 1987.

Jordan was also a swimming and CPR teacher for lifeguards at the Snowdon YMHA and at various YMCAs throughout the city in the years leading up to his departure for the United States.

UPDATE: Jordan's crossing of the English Channel in September 2010 was preceded by an amazing story where he was attacked during the previous month by street toughs in the early morning hours as he prepared for an 8-hour training swim off of Brighton Beach in New York.
