Former World and National Champion

Former Vanier student Karine Sergerie was in Lima, Peru from March 25-26, 2011 for the qualifying rounds for the Pan American Games. She easily reached the quarterfinals, a crucial passage in order to qualify for the national team at the Pan Am Games in her weight class.

On Friday, Karine needed only a single win to qualify among the top eight in the under 67 kg category. She crushed her opponent in the fourth round by the score of 11-1.

"I'm glad for this result" said Sergerie, "because I had experienced some difficulties during my last few tournaments. I was tough and strong throughout the match. This is probably the last tournament before the World Championships so I really wanted to make sure everything was in order."

KARINE SERGERIE WINS GOLD AT 2007 WORLD TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS

Karine Sergerie leaps for joy after defeating Park Hye-Mi of South Korea 4-3 in sudden-death overtime on May 22, 2007, thus winning the gold medal at the recent World Taekwondo Championships, held in Beijing, China.

Karine had previously won a silver medal at the 2003 Worlds as well as a bronze in 2005.

Vanier student Karine Sergerie is a force to be reckoned with in the competitive world of Taekwondo. After taking gold at the Canadian National Championships in April 2003, she came within a whisker of the gold medal at the World Taekwondo Championships held in September 2003, finishing the competition with a silver medal.
