Vanier College is pleased to announce that wrestler Erin Rainville was recently awarded a $2000 scholarship from the Georges St-Pierre Foundation in collaboration with the Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec (Québec foundation for athletic excellence, or FAEQ). This year, the Foundation donated $14,000 in bursaries to seven promising student-athletes competing in sports that helped Georges St-Pierre hone his own skills – namely boxing, fencing, judo, karate, Olympic wrestling, taekwondo, and artistic gymnastics.
This year, two of the seven recipients received an Academic Excellence Bursary, highlighting their outstanding grades in school, and five others received an Academic and Athletic Support Bursary, encouraging them to continue positive measures to balance school and sport – a common challenge faced by young high-performance athletes.
Erin Rainville is currently in her first year of study in Social Science with Mathematics at Vanier. In high school, Erin excelled in her studies, obtaining a 93% average in Secondary 5. She is a Canada Games Bronze medal winner in female wrestling in the 56kg category.
Erin takes her training and the practice of her sport very seriously. She is still acquiring new techniques and competencies in wrestling and is aiming for a medal at the Canadian Championships this year. She dreams of mounting the podium at the World Championships and eventually becoming a high school mathematics teacher. She is also keen to become a trainer in the future.
Congratulations to Erin Rainville and good luck in her studies and her sport.
