Vanier College is pleased to announce it will be hosting the first Intercollegiate Speak Up Slam Poetry Competition on April 27th 2017. The event will feature participants from all five Anglophone cegeps, Marianopolis, Dawson, John Abbott, Champlain and Vanier.

Each cégep held their own preliminary spoken word/slam poetry competition with the top three competitors from each college moving on to the finals, which will be held at Vanier College on April 27th 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium. Anyone interested in attending should show up at 6:45 p.m.

“The preliminary round that was held at the different Anglophone cégep’s showcased the talents of so many students. The level of interest was very high and I think there will be a lot of great competition on April 27th so people should come out and watch the finals,” said Vanier graduate Nayem Alam, who is helping to organize the event.

A poetry slam or spoken word competition involves participants performing original work alone or in teams of up to 5 people before an audience and judges. The work is judged on the manner and enthusiasm of its performance as well as its content or style. Musical instruments are also allowed to be used and participants have between 2 and 5 minutes to perform.
