Three Vanier students received scholarships from the Regroupement des fondations collégiales de Montréal at the Recognition Gala for RFCM Scholarships for the Next Generation held on May 3, 2011. This year’s Vanier winners are: Tevy Chan, Honours Health Science, Kara Leigh Redden, Nursing, and Cyndi Charlemagne, Professional Music & Song Techniques. Each recipient was awarded $1,000.
Cyndi Charlemagne is remarkable for her commitment to her program, her teachers and her fellow students. She was chosen to be the featured jazz singer of the Vanier College 40th Anniversary Big Band Benefit Concert with host Oliver Jones, and has also been stage manager for all the 2010-2011 Wednesday noon concerts and a volunteer at individual evening concerts in the Vanier Auditorium.
Tevy Chan has been on the Dean’s Honour Roll since her arrival at Vanier. “What strikes me most about Tevy is her maturity and dedication to her studies,” states Edward Awad, Coordinator of the Biology Department. “Not only is she a student with remarkable intelligence but she is also very pleasant company, easy going and positive. As well, Tevy is involved in many activities including tutoring science at Vanier, working in the Vanier College Learning Centre, participating in Science Week at Vanier and cooking and entertaining at a local seniors’ nursing home.
“Kara Redden is a Nursing student with exceptional capabilities who represents the next generation of nurses,” indicates, one of her Nursing teachers, Elizabeth Frioud. She goes on to say that during her work in the Montreal General Hospital, “Kara was always prepared for her time on the ward and displayed not only a caring attitude but performed above the standard expected for a second year student.” As well, in conjunction with The Learning Centre and nursing faculty, Kara organized an adjunct program for her fellow students in second year to promote academic success. Students have indicated that this tutoring program definitely helped them obtain a passing grade or do well in their studies.
Congratulations to these outstanding Vanier College students.
