With a view to bringing English educational services to communities located in the Laurentians, the Vanier College Board of Directors is pleased to announce that it has approved an agreement with the MRC des Laurentides that will see Vanier College opening an education centre in the historical site of La Pisciculture de Saint-Faustin, a former fish hatchery.
Public consultations and needs assessment survey
Vanier College faculty and staff are very excited about this new venture in Saint-Faustin which is part of its outreach work with regional communities. In addition to Vanier’s commitment to see the site being used by its teachers and other partners for applied research projects in the field of environment, it will also enable Vanier to offer courses and services in English to the local community of learners. Vanier is currently conducting public consultations and a needs assessment survey in aspects related to the environment, tourism, health and education, to understand the kinds of training activities that will serve the residents of the MRC des Laurentides. Once the results of that study are available in December, the College will be in a position to determine how to respond through courses and services for both individuals and businesses. Vanier College is particularly interested in what it might offer that touches on biomass projects, LEED architecture, municipal water management and tourism as well as Continuing Education and Language School courses.
Vanier College – a presence in the Laurentians
Since the late 1970’s, Vanier College has had an important presence in the Laurentians as it operates a Field Station near Lachute, Comté d’Argenteuil, for its Environmental and Wildlife Management Program. But it has long been interested in finding more ways to use its expertise and infrastructure to enrich and service other Laurentian communities. The College hopes that its partnership with the MRC des Laurentides will enable it to do so while helping to revitalize an important historical site in the Laurentians.
