There’s nothing like hip-swinging music for warming up on a cold autumn night and Vanier College has just the ticket with the fifth annual Big Band Evening Concert on October 17, 2012.

Host for the evening: CBC’s Jeanette Kelly
CBC radio personality and arts reporter, Jeanette Kelly, will host the evening which will bring together the Laurenhill Academy Senior Band, the Vanier College Big Band and the McGill Jazz Orchestra I.

Three great bands
Daniel Ouellette will conduct the high school ensemble, followed by Jocelyn Couture directing the Vanier College Big Band with singer Sarah Rossy. The McGill Jazz Orchestra I, an exclusively instrumental ensemble, will be conducted by Joe Sullivan. Two former Vanier students are playing in the university ensemble, Gabriel Gagnon, trombone and Felix Del Tredici, bass trombone.

Valuable experience for all the students
“This joint concert with high school, cégep and university ensembles has greatly benefited a large number of students over the last four years,” states Nadia Turbide, Coordinator of the Vanier Music Department.  “The younger students have a better idea of how much they can improve after hearing the older students playing on the same instruments.  As a result these young musicians are working harder, getting involved in more ensembles and performing at a higher level.”

Time and place
Do come and join us for this free Big Band celebration across educational sectors! The concert will take place on Wednesday, October 17th at 7:00 pm in the Vanier College Auditorium, room A-103, 821 Sainte-Croix, Montreal, QC, H4L 3X9.
