On Monday, April 13th, beginning at 7:30 PM in the Vanier Auditorium, the Vanier College Music Department will proudly host its 17th annual Big Band Benefit Concert to raise money for Music Department scholarships.
This year the concert is dedicated to the memory of the late Jan Jarczyk, well-known local jazz pianist, arranger, and composer who passed away last summer.
Once again pianist Oliver Jones will host the event, and the special invited guest will be Charles Ellison, on the trumpet. Charles Ellison will be performing a selection of works, including Billy Strayhorn’s Lush Life, arranged by Jan Jarczyk, and one of Jan’s own compositions, The Bad Time – Better Times.
Naturally, the award-winning Vanier College Big Band, directed by Jocelyn Couture, will be performing a selection of works and they will be followed by the professional J.L. Big Band, directed by Christopher Smith.
The eye-catching concert poster was designed by Jacqueline Mirador, a student in the Vanier Micropublishing and Hypermedia Program.
“This is always a fabulous event, “ says Glen Ethier, coordinator pf the Vanier College Music Department, “and we are fortunate that it is graced by the presence of some of Montreal’s finest jazz performers who give their time freely to help us out.”
Do come and enjoy an evening of great Big Band music!
Tickets (General Admission $20, Students/Seniors $10) can be purchased at the Vanier College Bookstore (F-129) or at Reception (F-224). The concert takes place on Monday, April 13th, at 7:30 PM in the Vanier Auditorium, (A-103), 821 Sainte-Croix Avenue, Montreal H4L 3X9.
