Vanier College is pleased to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Vanier College BDC Case Challenge, the most prestigious college level event of its kind in Canada. In its inaugural year the event featured three Montreal colleges who competed in the Vanier Cafeteria. Today the Vanier College BDC Case Challenge has grown into a national competition that will welcome 33 teams from schools across Canada for this year’s event, which is taking place from February 6th to February 8th 2015. Contestants from Victoria, British Columbia to Newfoundland are all honing their skills in preparation for the intense battle of marketing strategy and creativity that will take place when the teams compete in Montreal.
Ten years ago, the contest lasted a few hours on a Saturday afternoon. Nowadays, the Case Challenge is a weekend-long gathering that takes over more than 125 hotel rooms and all the banquet and meeting halls of the Marriot Courtyard Hotel.
“Case competitions are usually done at the university level and are a great experience for students; yet there had never been one at the college level before. So we started this challenge to offer Cegep students a taste of real world marketing problems and give them the opportunity to use their knowledge and creativity to present solutions to a panel of judges,” says David Moscovitz, the Vanier Team Coach and organizer of the Case Challenge. “BDC was our first sponsor and has continued to support us these past ten years as the event has grown into a national, bilingual event, with so many teams we’ve had to open extra theaters to accommodate all the competitors.”
The BDC is proud to be a long-time partner of this Case Challenge. “We believe in the importance of supporting youth education and playing an active role in helping students gain practical presentation skills and apply their marketing knowledge. It’s a great way to learn while having fun,” stated Michel Bergeron, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Public Affairs at BDC.
Round One of the 2015 competition will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel (Montreal Airport), 7000 Place Robert-Joncas, (514-339-5333). Presentations begin at 10:00 AM and run until 5:00 PM on Saturday. Because of the large number of participants, there will be three theatres of eleven presentations on Saturday. That evening, the top two teams from each of the three theatres will be announced at a gala dinner at 7:00 PM. These top six teams will then go on to compete Sunday morning, February 8, 2015, following which, an awards luncheon will take place.
