The Profile selected for you is based on information you gave to the department when you applied to the Music Program.

Your profile information (Program and Concentration) is stated on your webfile.  Before the middle of each semester you will receive an e-mail from the msic department offering you the option to change your profile.  Complete the e-form and submit it before the due date specified in the e-mail.

General Information on Profiles

All 300-level Theory & Application courses in ALL PROGRAMS include the following three components:

    1. two hours of “classical” theory
    2. one hour of Jazz Theory
    3. one hour of an application (Tech, Composition, OR Ensemble etc.)
      • to receive Second Instrument as your application (551-309-VA), you must submit a written request to the department by the date specified on the Music Department form (not the college validation) that you received in your History course. Not all requests can be honoured.

400-level Theory & Application courses in the Pre-university and Double DCS Programs comprise the following:

    1. 551-406-VA: two hours of “classical” Theory & 2 hours of Composition
    2. 551-407-VA : two hours of “classical” Theory & 2 hours of Tech*
    3. 551-408-VA : two hours of “classical” Theory & 2 hours of Ensemble

400-level Instrument & Applications in the Pre-university and Double DCS Programs comprise the following:

    1. 551-421-VA: one-hour instrument Lesson, one-hour lab & two hours of Large Ensemble
    2. 551-422-VA : one-hour instrument Lesson, one-hour lab & two hours of Demo Production
    3. 551-423-VA : one-hour instrument Lesson, one-hour lab & two hours of Tech*

* (Note that 551-423-VA Instrument & Applications may not be combined with 551-407-VA Theory & Applications)

551-356-VA Theory & Applications III in both streams of the Three-year Professional Program comprise the following:

    1. two hours of “classical” theory
    2. one hour of Jazz Theory
    3. two hours of Tech

551-456-VA Theory & Applications IV in both streams of the Three-year Professional Program comprise the following:

    1. two hours of “classical” theory
    2. one hour of Jazz Theory
    3. two hours of Tech
