Backstage for the 2009 Graduation Graduation 2009 Performance Trumpet practice A student playing the guitar Band practice Percussion and Bass practice

The Music Department of Vanier College offers five programs, each of which emphasizes the development of performance skills through private study and in small and large ensembles like the Vanier College Choirs, Concert Band, Big Band, Guitar, Wind, Brass, String, Percussion, and other Jazz, Pop and Classical Ensembles. Soloists and ensembles are featured in a series of weekly noon-hour concerts as well as in occasional gala performances. Our programs offer a wide range of technology courses including recording techniques, MIDI applications (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) and computer-integrated ear training and theory programs. Our facilities offer students a modern twelve-station computer lab and two digital recording studios. Students may also choose from an array of course electives including composition, technology, demo production, a second instrument, ensembles and combos.

Digital studio facilities are available to familiarize students with aspects of the recording industry. Students will apply the technology to record performances and produce their own demos.

A fully equipped computer lab provides the opportunity for students to learn sequencing, notation and digital editing and to reinforce their theoretical and aural skills.
