The nervous system allows you to gather and process information about your surrounding environment. The brain and the spinal cord are at the core of the system, they form the Central Nervous System. The nervous system is composed of cells called neurons that transmit information by means of changes in the electrical activity in their membranes. For electrical charges to be transmitted, a positive charge outside of the neuron and a negative charge inside the neuron needs to be maintained. A pump in the membrane of the neuron insures that the gradient remains through active transport.
The respiratory system
allows you to use the oxygen in the air and to release the carbon dioxide. It is composed of your lungs and airways. When your diaphragm
contracts the ribcage
expands, causing you to inhale
. This causes air to move into your lungs
which then proceeds to making oxygen available to your body through the circulatory system
