Vanier was saddened to hear of the passing of Lila Stonehewer on February 1, 2016. During her many years teaching at Vanier, Lila was a co-founder of the Kaleidoscope Program in Quebec-Canada studies, for which she received a Secretary of State Award.

Her book “Interpretation of Symbols in the Work of E. J. Pratt” (284 pages) was written in 1970 and is in the National Library of Canada. She also wrote a nine-page article in 1966 entitled “Anatomy of Confusion” which originally appeared in “Apprenticeships in Discovery. Special issue of Canadian Literature 29” (Summer 1966) pp 34-42. Lila had no less than three family connections with the College. Her daughter, Judith Stonehewer, was a librarian at Vanier who was in charge of the Snowdon Campus Library and Snowdon AV Department from 1980-1986. Judith left Vanier in the late 1980s to become the Head Librarian at Marianopolis College. As well, Lila’s daughter Christine Stonehewer worked at Vanier for a number of years as an Academic Advisor before moving on to Dawson. Finally, Lila’s late husband Ed Over taught Mathematics at Vanier for many years as well.

Vanier extends its deepest sympathies to the entire family for their loss.
