She has taught basketball in a children's camp program. Maria is a member of Vanier's rugby team. Maria excelled at mathematics in high school and has achieved exceptional results in her mathematics courses here at Vanier. She is a student coach/tutor in the mathematics resource centre.

Jessica, a Pierrefonds resident, played competitive volleyball, basketball and rugby for Riverdale High School. Jessica has achieved strong mathematics grades both in high school and in her Vanier courses. She achieved First Class Honors in the past fall semester.

Maria and Jessica are the second annual recipients of this scholarship. The scholarship was established in memory of Lloyd Elder who was a longtime faculty member of Vanier's Physical Education Department (25 years) until his untimely death in 1997. This scholarship reflects Lloyd's love of mathematics (MA, major in mathematics, Concordia U.) and his dedication to college and community sports.
