EAST MEADOW, N.Y.- World champion Jennifer Carroll of Trois-Rivieres, Que., and Elizabeth Warden of Toronto each won backstroke gold medals Friday at the seventh stop on the short
course swimming World Cup circuit.

In the women’s 50-metre backstroke, Carroll clocked 27.69 seconds for her second medal this season on the circuit. Erin Gammel of Calgary clocked 28.24 for the silver edging Haley Cope of the U.S., third in 28.26.

‘’It was very good race for me considering I wasn’t 100 percent,’’ said Carroll, who has been battling sinus problems this winter. ‘’I was very smooth in the water and that augurs well for my 100 backstroke tommorow (Saturday). I can’t wait to see what I do in that race.’’

UPDATE: In that 100 backstroke race, Jennifer ended up collecting her second medal in two days by placing third with a time of 1:00.73.
