Our Counselling Services

We offer individual personal, educational and career counselling to all Vanier College students. In a confidential relationship, a student can discuss a range of difficulties she or he may be experiencing. Many students have one or two counselling meetings, while others use our services for a longer period of time. Students often see us for help with:

• problems with parents and families
• concerns about relationships
• anxiety, stress, panic attacks, depression
• lack of self-confidence, loneliness, shyness
• eating disorders
• sexuality
• gender orientation concerns
• physical, sexual, psychological or emotional abuse
• concerns about academic achievement
• developing a career or educational path
• concerns about motivation
• difficulties in decision-making
• coping with the illness or death of a loved one

Our Testing Services
Vocational testing is available for students and can be used as a valuable component of the counselling process.

Our Services for Students with Physical Disabilities
If you have a physical disability and feel that you may benefit from note-takers, adapted technology, special parking arrangements, elevator keys or other accommodations, contact Adele Rovito in room C203.

To Make An Appointment
If you wish to meet with a Counsellor, see our receptionist in C203 or call 744-7885 to make an appointment. Services are regularly available Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:30pm. There is a "Drop-In" hour, four days a week, when students can pass by without an appointment (the schedule is posted in room C203). You can also speak to any of the Counsellors directly or leave a voice mail message.
Please note that while there may sometimes be a significant wait for an appointment, in the event of a crisis or emergency, a Counsellor can be available immediately. If you or someone you know needs to be seen urgently, speak to us directly. Please contact us if you wish to discuss how to refer a student to the Counselling Centre, or if you have any other questions.
