 Format/Structure: Introduction

One of the quickest ways to determine the type of article you are reading is by looking at the format of the article. Scholarly articles, which contribute knowledge to a particular discipline or subject by reporting on original research or ideas, generally follow a specific and rigid structure (although the format or order may vary according to discipline). These articles are geared toward researchers, scholars or professors who are familiar with the structure of a scholarly article. The articles usually contain the following:
