APA Documenting Social Science Sources
In APA style, the alphabetical list of works cited, which appears at the end of the paper, is titled "References." The models in this section illustrate the APA style for entries in the list of references, set forth in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th ed.

APA In-text citation
An in-text citation names the author of the source (often in a signal
phrase), gives the date of publication, and at times includes a page
number in parentheses. At the end of your paper, a list of references
must provide the publication information about the source that you refer
to in the text; this list has to be alphabetized by authors' last names
(or by titles for the work when there is no author available).

MLA Style

MLA style is used when you conduct research in the humanities which is often interdisciplinary, crossing boundaries between literature and history, philosophy and art, or music and religion.

In MLA style, the alphabetical list of works cited, which appears at the end of the paper, is titled "Works Cited". The models in this section illustrate the MLA style for entries in the list of works cited, set forth in the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, 6th ed. You can also see the MLA-style sample paper, get advice for preparing the list of works cited and view answers to Frequently Asked Questions about MLA Style.

MLA In-text citations
MLA in-text citations are made with a combination of signal phrases and parenthetical references. A signal phrase indicates that something taken from a source (such as a quotation, summary, paraphrase, or fact) is about to be used; usually the signal phrase includes the author's name. The parenthetical reference, which comes after the cited material, normally includes at least a page number. At the end of your paper, a list of works cited must provide the authors' name, the work's title and other
publication information. The basic rules are the same for both print and electronic sources.
