General Book Collection: 2 week loans

Reserves: Course materials,
these items are on short term loan ( 2 hrs, 24 hrs, 3 days, 7 days)

Photocopiers
: With an I.D. card

Renewals
: Books not requested by another user may be renewed on the due date. No phone renewals. Late books cannot be renewed.

Holds
can be placed on books which are out on loan to another person this can be done by  using the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Circulation staff will assist you with an assigned  user number and password..

Searches:
Fill out a form at the Circulation counter for books that are not out on loan but which cannot be located on the library shelves.

Recalls
: When a phone call requesting the return of library material is made, the item(s) must come back within 48 hours or fines will be charged.

Overdue items
: All Library material past the date or time that it was due is charged a fine. Unpaid library charges may result in:
1) loss of borrowing privileges
2) you will not be allowed to register in a new semester
3) you will not be able to graduate until all charges are cleared.


OVERDUE FEES

Books (excluding Reserves) : 50 cents a day, maximum $10.00 an item.

Reserve Material
: 24-hour reserve book is $1.00 an hour, 3-day book is $5.00 a day, and 7-day book is $2.00 a day. Maximum $20.00 an item.

CD's and Videotapes
: $1 an hour, maximum $20.00 an item.

Audio Visual Equipment
: $1.00 per hour an item, maximum $20.00 per item.

Computer station:
$5.00 per hour.

Unauthorized removal of "library use only" material:
$25.00 an item, plus accumulated hourly fines.

Unauthorized loan period:
ie., (2 hr loan taken overnight) $25.00.

Recalls: Failure to return recalled material within 48 hours
: $25.00 a recall.

Vandalized or damaged materials
: $25.00 an item; replacement costs; possibility of disciplinary action.

Lost or replacement material
: cost of item plus $10.00 processing charge and $5.00 billing charge.


RULES OF BEHAVIOUR

-  Cell phone use is not permitted within the library

-  Keep it quiet. Noise from electronic and audio equipment is disturbing

-  Clear you mess from desks and tables into the garbage bins.

-  Watch your stuff this helps avoid theft.

-  Respect the equipment. Follow instructions for use; ask staff for assistance.

-  Graffiti is unacceptable in any form.

-  Respectful your fellow students, please do not  rip out pages from books,    magazines, or be late with reserve materials.

-  Do not smoke, eat or drink (except for bottled water) in the Library.


FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO I UPDATE MY ID CARD EACH SEMESTER?
You can update your ID card at the beginning of each semester in the I.T. Center (D-301). You will, however, need proof of registration (e.g. your schedule). New ID cards are also issued in the IT Centre (D-301).

IF I FORGET MY ID CARD, CAN I BORROW LIBRARY MATERIAL?

The Circulation Supervisor can authorize library use only of material, if you leave some form of ID at the Circulation counter in exchange. This will only be allowed twice.

CAN I USE SOMEONE ELSE'S ID?

No

WHAT IF I LOSE MY ID CARD?

Report lost IDs to the Library immediately, a note will be placed on your file to protect you from unauthorized use of your card by someone else. If after a few weeks the card does not turn up, you will have to get a new one made at the IT Centre (D301). Cost is $10.00.

CAN I RENEW LIBRARY MATERIAL?

Books on a two week loan can be renewed on the due date if the item is not requested by another person. Overdue items cannot be renewed without permission of the circulation supervisor and without payment of all outstanding fines. Reserve material or A-V software cannot be renewed.

DO I NEED TO BRING BOOKS IN TO RENEW THEM?
No. Books can be renewed online from home. Go to the library online catalogue (OPAC), click on Patron Services and follow the instructions or ask at the Circulation Counter for help.

CAN I RENEW BOOKS MORE THAN ONCE?

No. You can have an item for 4 weeks maximum. Then it must be returned. Once the book has been returned and processed, it will be shelved and available again.

CAN MY FRIEND RETURN BOOKS AND HAVE THEM IMMEDIATELY SWITCHED TO MY NAME?

No, the books cannot be switched they have to be returned, processed and shelved.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I CANNOT PAY MY LIBRARY FINE WHEN I RETURN OVERDUE MATERIAL?

You can pay later, the amount you owe remains on your record. It does not increase unless you accumulate other fines. When the amount reaches $10.00, you lose your borrowing privileges and your access to Omnivox is blocked.

IS THERE A DEADLINE FOR  MY LIBRARY FINES?

All fines must be cleared by the end of each semester. Notices are placed around the Library and in VANIER THIS WEEK when the deadline approaches. At the end of each semester, the Library reports all outstanding fines to the College Accounting Department, and your registration is blocked until the account owed is cleared.

CAN I USE A BANK OR CREDIT CARD TO PAY LIBRARY FINES?

Yes, if you are paying at the Accounting office (H building). No, if you settle your account in the Library, we only accept cash or cheques.

CAN I TAKE A 2 HOUR RESERVE ITEM OUT OF THE LIBRARY?

Yes with a valid reason. WARNING: return the material within 2 hours, if you take it overnight, there is an automatic $25 charge per item, plus usual hourly fees.

WHERE CAN I MAKE PHOTOCOPIES?

In the library F-300, beside and in the Print shop B-121 and in the N building 1st floor lobby.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO MAKE A PHOTOCOPY?

10 cents a copy. ID card with cash on it is used in the Library, all other photocopiers use coins.

HOW DO I USE MY ID CARD AS A PHOTOCOPY CARD?

You have to make use of the Cash Manager which turns your ID card into a photocopy credit card. You must put at least $1.00 on your card at a time, any money not used on your ID card remains on for future use, no refunds.


COMPUTERS  IN THE LIBRARY

There are several computers with Internet access in the Library. These are reserved for research purposes with assistance from the Reference Department Help Desk. You must sign out a computer at the Circulation counter; the loan period is one hour at a time. The cost of printing  is 4 cents per page using your Vanier ID card. There is one "print only" machine in the Library where you can print from a diskette, a memory stick or from Omnivox.
