Modern Languages Association guide to bibliographic citations

MLA Style
MLA style is used when you conduct research in the humanities which is often interdisciplinary, crossing boundaries between literature and history, philosophy and art, or music and religion.

In MLA style, the alphabetical list of works cited, which appears at the end of the paper, is titled “Works Cited”. The models in this section illustrate the MLA style for entries in the list of works cited, set forth in the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, 8th ed. (MLA, 2016).
