Angelene: Didn't people use to think that DNA was linear?

Ms. Myles: Yes, they do.

Angelene: When did they used to believe that?

Ms. Myles: Before the fifties. Now, thanks to several scientists in 1953, we knows that DNA is helical. These scientists was Francis Crick, James Watson, Maurice Wilkins, and Rosalind Franklin. The story starts with Franklin.

Stephanie: What did Rosalind Franklin use to study?

Ms. Myles: Franklin use to studies Physical Chemistry.

Andrew: Where did she used to study?

Ms. Myles: She used to studying at Cambridge University. Rosalind Franklin use to be an expert in using X-rays to study physical chemistry. Watson and Crick found her research to be very important in their discovery of the shape of DNA.

Angelene: Why did they use to use this method so much?

Ms. Myles: They used to uses it and still does because it helps them see how atoms are arranged. Franklin used this method to discover the real shape of DNA.

Stephanie: Did the other scientists use to give Franklin the credit she deserved?

Ms. Myles: No, they did. She was a woman working in a man's world. Watson and Crick also use to use her research without her knowledge.

Andrew: How did they use to do that?

Ms. Myles: Watson says that a colleague of Franklin's who disliked her showed her research to them even though they was working for different colleges.

Angelene: Who else used to dislike her?

Ms. Myles: I believes most of the men did. She didn't trying very hard to make them like her, and many of the men do not think women should work in science.

Stephanie: We are late for our Physics class. We have to go.

Andrew: Thank you, Ms. Myles.
