Alex and Melissa are travelling across New Zealand. Here is an excerpt from Alex's travel log.
Saturday, August 2
our bags, and we
to travel all the way to New Zealand for an adventure vacation. Melissa seems very busy, and she
at me in a strange way because I am sitting here writing in my log. Maybe she is upset because I’m not helping her with the packing. I’m looking forward to this trip very much. I hope Melissa likes hiking, bicycling and kayaking as much as I do!
Monday, August 4
Melissa is giving me that strange look again. She
from our kayaking experience today. The seawater sure is cold, especially when your kayak tips over. Also, the seals are
because her bag is still wet. She
that we leave our money at the campsite when we kayak. I think she is right. Money sinks.
Tuesday, August 5
day of hiking. The forest here is beautiful, and the clouds
a book about the animals we can see in the forest. I can’t wait until tomorrow.
Wednesday, August 6
I am putting bandages on my legs. Melissa is looking up the name of the insane creature whose tooth is in my ankle. Also, she
her legs and arms with lotion for the poison ivy. The tour guide is giving a weeklong class on hiking safety. We
our choice not to participate.
Friday, August 8
on the beach today and relaxing. The other travellers
us because poison ivy is
. I am itching all over. At least I am enjoying the beautiful sun.
Saturday, August 8
Melissa and I
Our arms hurt too much from our sunburn to row today. Melissa is giving me that strange look more and more often. She is complaining to me because I think that her idea to go to London is boring. Melissa says that museums, monuments, and shopping are better than wild animals, poison ivy and sunburns. She isn’t ready for a life of adventure.
Sunday, August 9
Melissa is packing again. Our trip continues for another week but we plan to go home tomorrow. Our guide
that those delicious berries from the forest are poisonous. That explains why we are looking and feeling sick. I think Melissa is regretting her decision to travel with me.
