Goal of the Program
To help students improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills using a variety of interactive methods.
Ages 13 to 15 only |
 |
Requirements
This course is not for complete beginners. Students from French high schools who have taken English as a Second Language are eligible. |
Homework
Students will be asked to complete work at home. For example, they will be asked to prepare for oral presentations, write book reports, and review material for quizzes. |
 |
Typical Day
Morning instruction (9 am - 12 pm) will focus on language acquisition. Students will practice listening and speaking and reading and writing equally.
There is a lunch break from 12 pm - 12:30pm. Students must bring their own lunch. (Fridge and microwave oven available for student use.)
In the afternoons (12:30 pm - 2:30 pm) students will use a more interactive approach to reinforce the skills learned in the morning:
- Presentations
- Spelling bees
- Theatre skits
- Role-playing
- Language games (Scrabble, Pictionary, Game Show).
The goal of the afternoon activities is to involve the students in everyday situations where they will practice their English.
Students also participate in several outings and sports activities that allow them to use their English outside of the classroom. Using their English in this manner is an essential component of the program and essential to student success. This summer, students participated in the following activities (included in the course fee):
- Biodome/Insectarium
- Educational workshops (in English) at the Museum of Contemporary Art
- Soccer Baseball
- Bowling
- Vanier Olympics (students developed their own sport and taught their classmates how to play it..in English, of course!)
