Canada World Youth (CWY)

Canada World Youth (CWY) Youth Exchange Programs (YEP) are for 17 - 20 year-olds. Exchanges last between four and seven months. Half the time is spent in Canada and the other half in a developing country in Asia, Africa, Latin America or the Caribbean. This is a group program where volunteers live with local host families and volunteer at local community organizations, farms or small businesses. The focus is on social and development issues. CWY programs promote intercultural understanding, increased awareness of development issues and personal and professional development. Canadian Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI)

The mission of the Canadian Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI) is to combat poverty and exclusion; to strengthen the development capacity of disadvantaged communities; to support initiatives for peace, human rights and equity; to mobilize resources and promote the exchange of know-how. CECI offers Canadian professionals the opportunity to work in a number of fields including human rights and democratic development, and economic and social development programs. The duration and conditions of the overseas assignments vary, depending on the type of work and the needs of the partner organizations. CECI is active in Africa, in Central America, in the Andes, in the Caribbean (Haiti), in Asia and in the Balkans.

Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)



CIDA's International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) is an employment program for young Canadian professionals (ages 19 to 30 inclusive) that offers post-secondary graduates the opportunity to gain valuable international development work experience. CIDA's International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) is an employment program for young Canadian professionals (ages 19 to 30 inclusive) that offers post-secondary graduates the opportunity to gain valuable international development work experience. The duration of the internship is between 5 to 8 months long. All interns are expected to fully complete their internship period. The internships are based in developing countries and CIDA's Priority Countries. Each intern receives a stipend or living allowance, to contribute towards the basic expenses of the internship. This amount is part of the government contribution of $12,000 per internship. Funds are used for travel, accommodatio5n, visas, vaccinations, briefing and orientation, living allowance etc. The interns may be required to share some of the costs of the internship through fundraising, their savings, domestic travel, language classes, or an in-kind contribution. Not only will this experience contribute to your personal and professional growth, your sponsor organization will lend a helping hand in your search for employment once your internship ends.

IDRC's Student Employment Program (SEP 2008) provides an opportunity for collegeanduniversity students to learn about the operations of IDRC and acquire relevant work experience in different fields through on-the-job training. Click here for the SEP eligibility and requirements. All the positions are located in Ottawa. Students from different areas of study will be welcomed to apply to the Program. The application period will begin on January 2 and run until February 1, 2008 inclusively. The employment period will start April 28 and end August 29, 2008.

Unite for Sight Volunteer Opportunities in Africa and Asia

The goal of Unite For Sight and its partner eye clinics and communities is to create eye disease-free communities. Unite For Sight's volunteers (local and visiting) work with partner eye clinics to provide eye care in communities without previous access. The eye clinic's eye doctors and Unite For Sight volunteers jointly provide community-based screening programs in rural villages. The clinic's eye doctors diagnose and treat eye disease in the field, and surgical patients are brought to the eye clinic for surgery. Patients receive free surgery funded by Unite For Sight so that no patient remains blind due to lack of funds. Volunteers immediately see the joy on patients' faces when their sight is restored after years of blindness. These memories last a lifetime.

Volunteers participate in hands-on clinical service while assisting eye doctors in rural villages, refugee camps, and slums. Volunteers are immersed in international health and development programs while providing eye care to patients living in extreme poverty. While helping the community, volunteers are in a position to witness and draw their own conclusions about the failures and inequities of global health systems. It broadens their view of what works, and what role they can have to insure a health system that works for everyone and that leaves no person blind in the future.

Students Without Borders/ World University Service of Canada (WUSC)

World University Service of Canada (WUSC) volunteers can now commit to both short and long-term placements in a wide range of professional areas including computing, communications, community development, environment, health, education and management. The range of opportunities has been further enhanced as a result of WUSC's role as an implementing agency in Canada for the United Nations Volunteer Program. The main country partners for the volunteer program are Benin, Malawi, Swaziland, Vietnam and Zimbabwe. Applicants must be over 18 and have a post-secondary education.

Students Without Borders now has some wonderful opportunities for volunteer placements in Botswana, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Malawi, Niger, Peru and Vietnam and we also provide travel bursaries to offset students' costs for summer 2008 volunteer placements in Burkina Faso (up to 2500$), Ghana (up to 2000$), Niger (up to 3000$), Peru (up to 1500$) and Vietnam (up to 2500$). World Youth Alliance NYC Internship

The World Youth Alliance is a global coalition of young people committed to promoting the dignity of the person and building solidarity among youth from developed and developing nations. Youth Challenge International (YCI)



Youth Challenge International (YCI) offers ten-week community development programs for volunteers aged 18 - 25, in Costa Rica and Guyana and six-weekleadership practicums for 21- 28 year-old volunteers, in Guyana and the South Pacific. YCI combines development, health work and conservation in adventurous projects carried out by teams of volunteers, who come from several countries and all walks of life. Living conditions are basic and work schedules are demanding. An experienced international staff team ensures projects are dynamic, safe and results oriented.
